"UNITED"

SHABBAT PROJECT

The "United" Shabbat Project is a project that I hold close to my heart.

This project consists of 4 products that are used during the Friday night rituals of Shabbat.

I redesigned a wine bottle. candlesticks, washing cup and a challah.

I took this family of objects and tried to find a common denominator, an idea that I could let lead my design.

I noticed that Shabbat is a day surrounded by family, togetherness, and sharing.

I wanted my products to show the act of sharing amongst the family and therefore, each object has an element of splitting.

The wine bottle- This is one wine bottle that is made up of two separate bottles, one white wine, and the other red wine.  Each bottle can stand alone or the two bottles can stand together.

Candlesticks- These candlesticks were inspired by a ritual of mine from when I was young. In a Jewish home, you add a candle for each family member that is added. These accordion style candlesticks hint to a growing family.

Washing Cup- A washing cup is used to wash your hands before eating bread. We wash both our hands one after another, this cup hints towards the movement we do when performing the washing ritual.

Challah- This challah is made up of many small rings that can easily be torn apart in order for each family member to get their own ring of challah.
